Sandustry Beginner Production Guide

DIRECT ANSWER

Use the smallest confirmed loop: break Dirt into Sand, combine 1 Sand with 1 Water to make 2 Wet Sand, and feed Wet Sand into a Shaker for Residue plus a chance of Gold. Spend Gold on Research; the Logistics node costs 30 Gold and unlocks Conveyor Belt and Launcher. This is a source-backed starting loop, not a tested best build order.

Player question: A new player wants one source-backed production loop before expanding into a broad factory.

Close one production loop first

The current Sand, Water, and Wet Sand references support one compact chain: Dirt supplies Sand; Sand touching Water creates Wet Sand; a Shaker consumes Wet Sand. Keeping that loop visible makes it easier to identify whether the blockage is input, processing, or output.

  • Break Dirt to collect Sand.
  • Bring Sand and Water together: 1 + 1 becomes 2 Wet Sand.
  • Research the Shaker for 20 Gold, then feed it Wet Sand.
  • Keep both the bottom Gold output and upper Residue output clear.

Unlock movement after processing works

The current Research page lists Logistics at 30 Gold and names Conveyor Belt and Launcher as its unlocks. Belts move solid pixels, but the belt reference also warns that a blocked front can stop the pile behind it.

  • Use Conveyor Belt for steady solid-pixel movement.
  • Treat a stopped pile as a downstream-space problem before adding more input.
  • Use Launcher only after checking the current in-game control and placement prompts.

What this starter route does not promise

The current sources do not establish a universal tutorial sequence, first-goal timing, fastest research order, or best base geometry. Early Access maps and objectives can change, so those details remain missing rather than being inferred from one screenshot or old demo footage.

Trace the answer before trusting it.

E1 is current first-party evidence. E2 is dated first-party or publisher-hosted reference material. E3 is timestamped public gameplay. Early Access updates can supersede any version-sensitive detail.

Publication limit: The production loop and published unlocks are source-backed; tutorial timing, keybinds, map sequence, and optimal layout were not independently tested.
