Sandustry Save File Location and Export Steps
DIRECT ANSWER
To save, open Esc → Save, enter a name, and choose Save. To export, open Esc → Load, select the save, and choose Export. On Windows, the official folder is %APPDATA%\sandustry\saves. Mac and Linux save folders, import behavior, and Steam Cloud recovery rules were not published in the sources checked.
- Windows folder
- %APPDATA%\sandustry\saves
- Export
- Esc → Load → save → Export
- Steam Cloud
- Listed; recovery rules missing
SAFE HANDOFF / SAVE PATH
Export before sending a bug report
Use the in-game flow first, then open the published Windows folder only if you need the underlying file.
- 01Save
Esc → Save → enter a save name → Save.
- 02Export
Esc → Load → select the save → Export.
- 03Locate
On Windows, open %APPDATA%\sandustry\saves.
- 04Attach
Use the exported save when a developer bug report requests it.
Player question: A player needs the official Windows folder and the in-game export path before reporting a crash or protecting progress.
Use the in-game Save and Export actions
The developer's save topic separates ordinary saving from exporting. Export is the useful handoff when a bug report or feedback request needs a reproducible save.
- Save: Esc → Save → name → Save.
- Export: Esc → Load → choose the save → Export.
- Copy the exported file before experimenting with recovery steps.
Open the Windows folder exactly as published
The official Windows path is %APPDATA%\sandustry\saves. That environment variable belongs to Windows; this page does not transplant it to macOS or Linux. Steam lists Steam Cloud, but the checked sources do not describe restore precedence, conflict resolution, or rollback.
Do not confuse saves with logs
The v0.5.3 note publishes main.log paths for crash diagnosis. Those are log paths, not save paths: Windows uses AppData\Roaming\sandustry\logs\main.log, macOS uses Library/Logs/sandustry/main.log, and Linux uses .config/sandustry/logs/main.log.
